Find out more about if its time to take the plunge and sell your home!

For some people, looking at houses for sale on the internet is a bit of a hobby. For others, the thought of moving house fills them with dread. But at some point, the chances are we will take the plunge. But how do you know if it is time to sell your house?

On average, most Brits will live in 7 houses over their lifetime, including two rental properties. There are many factors that might make you think it is time to start packing up and moving on to pastures new.

It is never an easy process so isn’t a decision most people take lightly (although here at Merryweathers, we make the process simple and stress free!)

Let’s have a look at some of the indicators that it is time to sell your house.

1) Your house it too small

There is a difference between your house being too small and having too much stuff but at some point, your house may just be too much of a squeeze.

If you find that too many people are sharing a bedroom, queues for the bathroom are stretching down the landing and there just isn’t enough space for everyone to sit and enjoy Strictly together, you might want to consider selling up!

2) Your house it too big

Downsizing, or as we like to call it, rightsizing, makes sense, both for your pocket, your sanity, and the environment.

Rightsizing helps you cut down on heating bills, can result in a smaller mortgage repayments and, the best bit of all, won’t take as long to clean!

3) It is getting harder to live there

People often know it is time to sell their house when they find the stairs or garden too hard or tiring to manage anymore.

It might be that it is simply too much of a mammoth task to clean it, the lack of parking space isn’t convenient now you have a little one, or your new job has a dreadful commute. The right home for you means you can live there comfortably and risk free.

4) To be near a better school

We all want to give our kids the best chance in life. For some, that means moving to be closer to a good school or one that aligns with religious values.

5) You want to be nearer family

Moving to be closer to elderly parents, grown up children, or even a social circle is a big motivator for selling your home. The pandemic has highlighted to many of us how precious our time together is and how we can’t take it for granted. It makes sense to move to be within walking distance from loved ones.
